The P-series models share the same raceway design approach but vary in bore and overall width, allowing an exact match to specific frame standards. If the original part number is worn off, we can identify the equivalent from a drawing or from bore, outer diameter and width measurements.

Headset bearings can be installed in external, semi-integrated or fully integrated cups. External designs are easier to service, while integrated designs deliver a cleaner look but demand tighter dimensional control because the bearing seats directly in the frame. Material, Geometry and Sealing

We manufacture headset bearings from high-carbon chromium bearing steel with heat treatment and precision grinding. Raceway curvature, ball diameter grading and assembly cleanliness determine steering smoothness, load distribution and service life. For corrosion-resistant variants, we can supply stainless steel grades AISI 420, 440, 440C, 304 or 316, drawing on our stainless steel bearing production experience.

  • Seal selection: metal shields (ZZ) reduce friction in dry, clean conditions; rubber seals (2RS) protect against water, dust and mud.
  • Geometry: contact angle, raceway width and ball complement are matched to the headset cup and the expected load direction.
  • Lubrication: grease type and fill level are selected for operating temperature, riding environment and steering torque.

Manufacturing and Quality Control

Our factory in Ningbo covers more than 8,000 square meters and is equipped with advanced manufacturing and testing equipment. With nearly a decade of deep groove ball bearing production experience, we apply the same controlled process to headset bearings: tolerance control, raceway roundness inspection, standardized factory inspection, rotation testing and noise inspection. Aosen's export team and the factory each verify quality before shipment, providing dual quality control for overseas orders.

Customization and OEM/ODM

We support OEM/ODM projects for bicycle brands, headset system suppliers and distributors. Customization can include bore and outside diameter adjustments, width changes, contact angle modification, seal selection, surface treatment and part marking. We develop products from customer drawings or samples, and small quantities can be produced for validation before series production.

Installation, Maintenance and Service Life

Headset bearings are pressed into the headset cups, and the actual running clearance depends on the steering preload set during assembly. The bearing itself is not designed for post-installation adjustment, so accurate cup alignment and correct press fit are important for smooth rotation. We can supply mounting recommendations for the selected model.

Service life is mainly determined by sealing, lubrication and contamination control. Metal-shielded bearings are suitable for dry environments; in wet or dirty conditions, rubber-sealed versions reduce the risk of premature wear. Regular inspection of play, noise and surface corrosion helps identify replacement needs before the bearing damages the head tube.

Bicycle Headset Bearings FAQ

What is the difference between H879, H889 and 52427?

H879 is a 40 x 51 x 6.5 mm bearing with a 36 degree contact angle, commonly used in road and urban bikes. H889 is a 40 x 52 x 8 mm version with more balls and a wider cross-section for mountain bikes, e-bikes and long-distance riding. 52427 uses a 42 mm bore and a 45 degree contact angle, with 38 smaller balls for road and lightweight sports applications.

Can you produce custom headset bearings?
